Arequipa, also known as the White City, was founded by the Spanish in 1540. It is full of fine colonial-era architecture and enjoys impressive natural landscapes and a cozy climate. This beautiful city is located at 2300 meters above sea level and lies at the foot of volcanic volcano Misti, a gigantic cone-shaped volcano (5822 m.s.n.), Chachani (6057 m.s.) and Pichu Pichu (5664 m.s.n.m.).
Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the Carmen Alto viewpoint to see part of the traditional Arequipeña countryside that has beautiful well-preserved terraces with stone walls and surrounded by ancient paths along the Chili River which divides Arequipa into two parts. Later we went to the viewpoint of Yanahuara in whose arches and historical area are narrow cobbled streets and old mansions of sillar (volcanic stone) with their typical vegetable gardens.
Mobility takes us to the historic center of the city to see the iconic Cathedral that has witnessed several earthquakes and then visit the museum Santuarios Andinos. This museum houses “Juanita, the girl of the ice” found in the snowy Ampato, exposed with her trousseau as an important point of the museum. Before entering the museum rooms, a video with the research is shown, this being an introduction to continue the journey.
At the end we went to the monastery of Santa Catalina where there are two types of sillar, the white ashlar that comes from the Chachani Volcano and the Misti pink, this last emblem of the city. The citadel occupies a land of 20,000 square meters and is absolutely isolated from the city although it is located in the heart of it. A small city inside another, a great and solid wall of 4 meters of height isolated the life of the women who inhabited the monastery.
At the end of the tour, transfer to the hotel.
